SRP Photo Competitions 2008 and 2010

A key aim of Scotland's Rural Past was to inspire people of all ages to discover more about their recent past through active engagement with their rural heritage. We worked with communities across Scotland to encourage people to visit, research and record rural settlement remains, and to pass on what they have learnt to others. Our photographic competitions in 2008 and 2010 helped raise awarenes of rural settlements and encouraged participants to visit and appreciate their local sites.
Three photographs were chosen each month to feature on our website for the following month and then entered into the overall competition. Three overall winning photos were chosen at the end of each competition from the pool of monthly winners, and the photographs of all monthly winners in the 2010 competition featured in a special SRP exhibition during 2011.

The theme of our Photo Competition for 2010 was 'You and Your Rural Heritage'. The subject matter included in our many entries included photos of people visiting, working on, or just enjoying being at rural settlement sites.

First prize: A flight with the RCAHMS Aerial Survey Team
